Myospots instructions: how to use Myospots
Myospots are small, dissolvable pads placed on the roof of the mouth to support tongue-posture training and nasal breathing practice.
How do you use Myospots?
Three steps: prepare, place and hold, then rest your tongue and breathe through your nose. Each step is explained below.
1. Prepare: wet your mouth, dry your hands
Myospots need moisture to stick to your palate.
- Wash and dry your hands thoroughly.
- Drink some water, then moisten the roof of your mouth with your tongue.
- Take out one spot with dry fingers and close the bottle.
2. Place and hold for at least 10 seconds
Place one Myospot on the hard palate just behind your upper front teeth, where your dentist demonstrated, not on the teeth.
Hold it gently and steadily with your fingertip for at least 10 seconds, then slowly release. A flatter area beside the central ridges may help it stick.
3. Rest your tongue and breathe through your nose
Rest your tongue gently against the spot. Relax your jaw, close your lips comfortably and breathe through your nose without strain.
Avoid chewing, flicking or pushing the spot hard with your tongue.
How long should you use a Myospot?
Follow the session length recommended by your dentist. A typical exercise session lasts 40 minutes, after which you should remove any remaining residue.
Do not sleep with a Myospot in your mouth.
How often should you use Myospots?
Your dentist's personalised programme takes priority. A typical starting routine is:
Week 1
One session a day
Week 2
Two separate sessions a day
Weeks 3 to 12
Three separate sessions a day
Use one spot per session. Your dentist will advise on maintenance and any other tongue exercises.
